Our Food Philosophy...
Fresh is best....
At Sahara, we try to source as much of our produce as we can from local suppliers, this means we can be assured of the freshness and generally means that by having a closer relationship with our suppliers we have more understanding of their processes and their philosophies (so we naturally choose suppliers that have sustainable, ethical and humane practices)
What this means for our customers is that a large proportion of the items on our menu are made from organic, free range, fair trade or spray free products from local suppliers. This makes our food tastier and better for you and helps people in our community. It also means that the seasons dictate what we can serve ensuring a constantly changing menu!
Please note, that as we believe "fresh is best" and try to avoid wastage, some menu items will sell out, which means later in the week you might have reduced choices from the menu. It really helps us if you can book ahead and if you are coming on a Sunday and have particular tastes or dietary requirements, it might also be a good idea to order in advance to ensure we can cater for you.

Sahara is found 15mins off State Highway 1 from Brynderwyn in the heart of the Kaipara region, an area rich in history (be it Natural History, Maori History or more recent European History). We are blessed to have the mighty Kaipara Harbour on our doorstep providing abundant seafood and rich productive lands that provide us with plenty of quality fruit, vegetable, meat, poultry, game and dairy products. How To Find Us...
To get to us from Auckland, head towards Whangarei and after Warkworth, Wellsford and Kaiwaka, look out for the Kauri Coast Highway (State Highway 12 to Dargaville) turn left there (at the Swinging Cow Cafe) and you will shortly be in Maungaturoto, carry on another 10mins and you will find yourself in Paparoa "The Village in the Valley" over the bridge and past the shops you will find us on the bend in the road opposite the Paparoa Store. From Dargaville simply take SH12 towards Brynderwyn (i.e. towards Auckland) and we are on the left about 45mins away. The Important Stuff!
Sahara Restaurant, Bar & Lounge is open Thursday through Sunday 10am - 3pm for Brunch/Lunch and again 6pm - Late for Dinner. We may have extended hours during the warmer months so please call to confirm and we are often open between lunch and dinner for snacks, tea/coffee and bar service. We have a 40-Seat Dining Room, a seperate bar, an informal lounge and a covered outside area making Sahara ideal for a quiet coffee, light lunch, special dinner or a huge function!
